The Brendel Botanical Models — Nature and Art — Part 12
25 January 2024
It is the 12th, last part of the exhibition of the Brendel botanical models (Germany, 1890s). The company was founded in 1866 (Breslau, Austria-Hungary). The models were created from moulds, the main material being papier-mâché, using a variety of additional materials: wood, gelatine, feathers, wool, and beads to name just a few. The models were mainly for teaching purposes.
The collection was acquired by St Petersburg University in 1897. It includes models of flowers, inflorescences, morphological formations of mosses, algae, conifers, and anatomical models.
