Exit: Ichitovkin personal exhibition
St Petersburg celebrates the 125th anniversary of Nabokov with Denis Ichitovkin’s personal exhibition, "Exit".
The "Exit" project is dedicated to Nabokov and the house where the writer was born. Even in exile, Nabokov recognized only one true home — the house on Bolshaya Morskaya Street. The writer cherished it in his heart and immortalized it in the work "Other Shores". The Green Drawing Room, most vividly described in the novel, is linked to Nabokov’s childhood memories.
Denis Ichitovkin reinterprets Nabokov’s fate through the symbolism of three exits, reminiscent of an old Russian fairy tale: «If you go left, you will lose yourself...» These three exits represent the doors of the Green Drawing Room from Nabokov’s house, captured on canvas with all the traces of time’s relentless passage. The artwork includes the marks of partitions once installed by Soviet officials and the damaged plaster. With the delicate and keen observation of a true connoisseur and a language as rich as Nabokov’s, Ichitovkin immerses us in the atmosphere of the Green Drawing Room, still bearing the traces of the writer’s presence.
