Admissions for the joint master’s programme of St Petersburg University and the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies is open
St Petersburg University continues to accept applications for the master’s programme in International Relations in the Post-Soviet Space. The programme is set to train specialists for diplomatic departments and interstate bodies. It provides an excellent opportunity to enter professions in consultancy, expert evaluations, and analytics.
This is the first programme in Russia to study the post-Soviet countries. The programme is a joint programme offered by St Petersburg University and the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (Uzbekistan). The programme provides an opportunity to receive a degree from St Petersburg University and the foreign partner. This programme will be of interest to those who plan to build a diplomatic career in the CIS countries in the future.
The curriculum bridges fundamental theoretical training and relevant applied skills. Several courses focus on the domestic and foreign policy; Eurasian integration; and political, legal, economic, and cultural aspects of international relations in the region. The interdisciplinary approach enables students to comprehensively analyse the processes in the post-Soviet space.
The educational process is built on three main approaches. First, the problem approach enables students to comprehensively explore the CIS countries. Second, the regional approach aims to analyse political processes. Third, the country-specific approach focuses on the domestic and foreign policies of states.
Unlike foreign similar programmes, the programme is focused on studying the post-Soviet space from the inside, rather from the outside. Additionally, master’s students will be able to visit most of the studied countries without having to obtain a visa and have access to a rich information and academic database. This will enable them to conduct research and publish their findings in leading journals.
Students will have practical training in international organisations, diplomatic departments, and commercial companies. The demand for the programme is confirmed by the success of current graduates who pursue career in: the higher education system; the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States; international organisations; various committees; Russian and foreign banks; and the ministries of foreign affairs of the post-Soviet states.
The duration of the programme is two years. You can find additional information about admissions on the website of the St Petersburg University Admissions Office.
