Students at the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent to do internships at the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan
Lawyers from St Petersburg University has held a meeting at the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan to present the achievements of the Russian justice system, discuss the results of the cooperation agreement in the field of preparing legal experts, and identify tasks to promote partnerships and collaborations with the St Petersburg University branch.
Sergei Belov, Dean of the Faculty of Law at St Petersburg University, spoke about reforms in the judicial and legal system of Russia. The expert shared Russia’s experience in increasing the efficiency of justice, digitalisation of court activities as part of the concept "Digital court", providing courts with high-calibre professionals and systematically developing the expertise and professional skills of court staff. Sergei Belov also presented the results of the work of St Petersburg University scholars in the field of monitoring law enforcement and explained how students are involved in this activity to develop necessary professional skills.
The master’s programme of St Petersburg University "Information Law and Data Protection" with the additional qualification "Specialist in Intellectual Property Management and Technology Transfer" aims to develop the competencies necessary to enter the legal profession in the field of information technology and telecommunications.
The parties agreed to jointly prepare specialists equipped with thorough knowledge and skills, to involve experienced judges and judicial staff in the teaching process, and to ensure effective interaction between legal professionals and researchers.
The agreement between the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed in the autumn of 2024. The cooperation involves joint preparation of high-calibre legal professionals in Uzbekistan, organising internships for St Petersburg University students and joint projects on training students at the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent to ensure they will pursue a legal career in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the visit to Uzbekistan, Sergei Belov, Dean of the Faculty of Law at St Petersburg University, visited the branch of St Petersburg University and met with first-year master’s students in the Private International Law programme. The students asked questions about the teaching and learning process, internship opportunities and professional development. It is essential to receive feedback from students and encourage them to share ideas on how to improve the educational environment, said Sergei Belov. According to Sergei Belov, the students’ suggestions will help to ensure that the teaching and learning process is even more qualitative and effective.
Earlier, a networking event for Russian and Uzbek students was held at the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent. Thirty University students visited Uzbekistan. They are future economists and experts in international relations, who presented their scientific, social, creative and volunteer projects. The delegation was headed by Nikolai Parfenenok, Deputy Dean of the School of International Relations and Head of the St Petersburg University International Accelerator.
Guests from St Petersburg were welcomed by Makhmudzhon Ziiadullaev, Director of the Tashkent branch of St Petersburg University, and Artem Rubtsov, Deputy Director the Tashkent branch of St Petersburg University, consultant to the Vice-Rector for International Affairs at St Petersburg University.
During the programme, the activities of the International Accelerator at St Petersburg University, opened at the end of 2024, were presented. Students took part in a workshop on generating business ideas and learned about the formats of the University and government support available for student start-ups. St Petersburg University students presented their start-ups CarPet and ToDoTrip, which received the Government support in the amount of 1 million roubles, becoming winners of the Student Start-up contest of the Innovation Support Foundation. In turn, Uzbek students presented their IT platform for learning foreign languages, which already has hundreds of thousands of users.
