St Petersburg University to train geophysicists with advanced skills in analysis and programming
The programme "Geophysics and Computer Technologies of Data Analysis" is a new master’s programme aimed at training high-calibre experts in geophysics. Graduates will be well-versed in all geological exploration methods available today to solve specific industrial and scientific problems in geophysics, oil and gas geology, mining geology, and engineering geology.
The programme is unique in that it provides comprehensive practice-oriented training using advanced software in the oil and gas industry: Petrel Introduction, Paradigm geophysical software, Oasis montaj, and RadExPro.
The curriculum of the master’s programme includes the following academic courses: Petrophysics; Geophysical Equipment; Seismic Prospecting; Well Logging; Geological Interpretation of Seismic Data; Geoelectrics; Potential Field Methods; Mathematical Fundamentals of Signal Processing; Python Programming; Data Science; Seismic Data Processing; Integrated Interpretation of Geophysical Data; Marine Geophysics; Aerogeophysics; Mining Geophysics; Oil and Gas Geophysics; and Engineering Geophysics to name just a few.
Students of St Petersburg University will have the opportunity to do internships at the country’s leading geological exploration organisations: Gazprom Neft Science and Technology Centre; Rosneft; and Rosgeologia to name just a few. Students will also have access to the latest research equipment in the resource centres and laboratories of St Petersburg University. Additionally, students will be able to join industry-specific research and production enterprises or private organisations as part of their scientific research. The curriculum also includes teaching practice, which will enable students to engage in teaching activities in future.
Graduates will be able to build a career in: institutions of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation; leading exploration and production companies; design and survey organisations; and vertically integrated oil and gas companies. Graduates will also be able to engage in research activities.
St Petersburg University offers related master’s programmes, including: "Bioinformatics"; "Geology"; "Petroleum Engineering"; "Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology"; "Hydrosphere and Atmosphere: Modelling and Forecasting"; and "Geological Support for Hydrocarbon Reservoirs Development".
