Literary contest for schoolchildren and a master class on solving Olympiad tasks: the Day of St Petersburg University held in the Republic of Belarus
The House of Moscow in Minsk has hosted the Day of St Petersburg University. It was held jointly by the University and the representative office of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) in the Republic of Belarus. Future applicants were told about the next year admission campaign and the advantages of studying at one of the leading universities in Russia.
The Day of St Petersburg University in the Republic of Belarus was held in a hybrid format and attracted much attention. 18 Belarusian schools organised distance participation for students who were interested in receiving a higher education degree in Russia. There was also a possibility to watch it online.
Addressing the participants of the meeting with a welcoming speech, the head of Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the Republic of Belarus Eduard Krustkaln noted that St Petersburg University is traditionally the most popular Russian university with the citizens of the Republic of Belarus. Aleksandr Babich, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Admissions at St Petersburg University, expressed his gratitude to the mission of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Belarus and the House of Moscow in Minsk for the mutual work and assistance in realisation of the University projects, including those aimed at study of culture of the fraternal peoples of Russia and Belarus.
The confirmation of these words is the joint international contest 'Literary destinies of Belarus and Russia: from dialogue to understanding’ in the 2021/22 academic year. It is dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of Yanka Kupala and the 130th anniversary of the birth of Konstantin Paustovsky. During the event, the official signing of the statute of the contest was held. It was signed by Eduard Krustkalne and Aleksandr Babich.

At the career guidance master class ‘How to choose a profession: higher education, labour market and career prospects’ Aleksandr Babich told the Belarusian students about the wide choice of academic programmes that St Petersburg University offers to applicants. The competitive advantages of the University are the focus of the programmes on the requirements of the modern labour market and interdisciplinarity. This which opens up prospects for further professional development.
Evgeniia Kuznetsova, Acting Head of the Admission Directorate of St Petersburg University, made a presentation ‘Current admission issues and advantages of studying at the University’. She presented the list of training areas and possible areas of professional activity after graduation. She also spoke about this year's admission campaign and the admission algorithm for the studies in 2022/23 academic year and answered questions that could be put by the audience both in person and remotely.
Additionally, students took part in the master class ‘Interdisciplinary creative tasks of socio-humanitarian orientation: a case study of the tasks of the St Petersburg University Olympiad for Schoolchildren’. They also had the opportunity to undergo psychological training ‘Increasing personal effectiveness: the basics of time-management’.
