St Petersburg University online courses to help you protect yourself and your business online
St Petersburg University has developed two new online courses on information security designed to teach participants how to protect personal data from intruders. These courses go beyond traditional technical aspects, addressing topics such as information consumption and digital hygiene.
In today’s world, technology and data play a central role in daily life: personal information is frequently used for shopping, restaurant reservations, money transfers, and other online activities.
However, this growing reliance on technology by organisations and individuals also increases exposure to threats like phishing, malware, and viruses, making protection essential. The online courses developed by experts from St Petersburg University aim to help participants safeguard personal data, protect company reputations, and build secure online business processes.
The programmes require no special preparation, and students are expected to attend weekly classes, watch thematic video lectures, study supplementary materials, and complete test assignments.
St Petersburg University is the only Russian educational institution that is a co-founder of the Global Alliance of Massive Open Online Courses, a co-founder of the Open Education online platform, the first University in Russia whose courses are hosted on China’s largest national online education platform, XuetangX, and the sole Russian partner of Indonesia’s online education platform, ICE Institute (Indonesia Cyber Education Institute).
Today, St Petersburg University offers over 500 massive open online courses, attracting a global audience of more than 4,000,000 learners.
The Fundamentals of Information Security online course is designed to help managers and business owners understand the principles of a multi-level information protection system and how to organise the work of an information security service to prevent losses.
The knowledge gained during the course will not only assist in safeguarding critical personal and business information but also enhance trust in organisations, services, and products.
The second course, Information Security for Everyone, addresses both the technical and "human" dimensions of information security. It equips students with the skills to identify risks, manage data, explore critical topics such as the psychology of influence in the online space, and evaluate the reliability of information. Participants will also gain insights into the human digital footprint, the methods employed by cybercriminals, and effective strategies to safeguard their data.
