St Petersburg University's competitive monetary awards for research works:
St Petersburg University confers monetary awards for the best research works on a competitive basis.
Such an award may be granted only to those St Petersburg University employees whose research findings during the 5 years preceding the year of the competition have been published in sources included into the academic citation indexes Scopus and Web of Science (Core Collection, RSCI, ESCI), and/or in monographs published by the Web of Science listed publishers. These research papers must be published during the period of St Petersburg University employment. They must contain a link to St Petersburg University as the place where the research findings were obtained and the research works were created.
The award is conferred in the following categories:
- for fundamental achievements in science - to the author or a team of co-authors (no more than five people) for research works (work cycles) that are a major contribution to science. The amount awarded is 70,000 rubles;
- for the contribution of young researchers to science - to the author or a team of co-authors (no more than five people) for scientific works (work cycles) that contribute to the development of scientific knowledge and are by original and relevant in the formulation and solution of scientific problems. The amount awarded is 50,000 rubles .
No more than 5 monetary awards are conferred in each category of the competition.
Competitive selection of applications for funding the participation of employees and students of St Petersburg University in international scientific events with reports on their research findings (Activity 5).
The competition finances applications from University staff and students for participation in international scientific events with reports on their research findings, provided that they are contributors to scientific reports included into the programme of the scientific event or are members of either the organising or programme committee of the given conference. Particular attention during the competitive selection is given to young promising scientists (including master's and doctoral students), as well as to participants in the organisation of major international events, including guest speakers. Papers published in sources included into the Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus within the 3 years preceding the year of the competition is a fact that matters during the competitive selection. The winners will be provided a travel allowance.
Competitive selection of applications for funding visits to Russian and foreign organisations to conduct research (Activity 6).
The competition provides funding for internships of St Petersburg University students and young scientists under the guidance of leading scientists who are employees of other Russian and foreign scientific and academic organisations, as well as business trips of St Petersburg University employees to conduct collaborative research with other organisations. Papers published in sources included into the Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus within the 3 years preceding the year of the competition is a fact that matters during the competitive selection. The winners must publish at least one article in a periodical indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus within a year after the trip.
Reimbursement of the contributors' expenses (Activity 9).
Reimbursement of expenses is provided to the academic workers who are authors (co-authors) of scientific papers. Funds are allocated for the publication of scientific papers in international scientific journals included into the academic citation indexes Web of Science Core Collection and/or Scopus and belonging to either Q1 or Q2 category. If the journal is assigned to a quartile in both the Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus, or to a quartile in several journal categories, the highest quartile value for the last available year is taken into account.
The following is taken into account when considering an application: the journal level; the availability of other potential sources of reimbursement for the applicant (grants from foundations, etc.); more than one affiliation with the applicant in the article (if affiliation with St Petersburg University is not a primary one, there will be no reimbursement).
Competitive selection of applications for conducting fundamental interdisciplinary research at the expense of St Petersburg University (Activity 1).
Applications for funding fundamental interdisciplinary research projects at the expense of St Petersburg University are accepted for the competition. The term of funding is up to 3 years.
Citizens of the Russian Federation and foreign citizens may take part in Activity 1 competitions for the Research Project Director job.
Following the results of the research, the Director and the participants must publish papers in sources included into the Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus indicating their affiliation to St Petersburg University. Additional funding for research in the subject area must be raised from sources external to St Petersburg University.
Competitive selection of applications for conducting applied interdisciplinary research at the expense of St Petersburg University (Activity 3).
Applications for funding fundamental applied research projects at the expense of St Petersburg University are accepted for the competition. The term of funding is up to 3 years.
Citizens of the Russian Federation and foreign citizens may take part in Activity 3 competitions for the Research Project Director job.
Following the results of the research, the Director and the participants must publish papers in sources included into the Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus indicating their affiliation to St Petersburg University. Other protectable intellectual deliverables must also be created (apart from the articles in scientific journals and other publications), with St Petersburg University being their copyright holder. Additional funding for research in the subject area must be raised from sources external to St Petersburg University.
